Advanced diagnostics for electromagnetic flowmeters

Device and process monitoring functionalities for increased application safety

Challenge

Excessive vibrations, extreme temperature, magnetic field effects, product-build up or medium properties such as corrosiveness affect the performance of electromagnetic flowmeters (EMF). If undetected, those external and process effects lead to a loss of process reliability and, if hazardous media are involved, threaten plant as well as occupational safety.

Solution

To detect disturbing influences fast and reliably, KROHNE EMFs have built-in self-diagnostic functions for the continuous monitoring of readings and the detection of process-related issues. This includes constant monitoring of electronics and sensor hardware, out-of-spec testing and other test routines to e.g. identify contamination, leakages or liner deformation.

Safety benefits

  • Extensive device and application diagnostics for monitoring external and process effects on the measurement

  • Self-check functionality for constant monitoring of electronics and sensor hardware

  • Out-of-spec testing detects unexpected flow changes, linearity issues and uncertain measurements

  • Continuous monitoring to detect leakages, contamination, liner deformation or air entrainment in the process liquid

  • Electrode circuit resistance monitoring detects anomalies such as isolation instantly

  • Indication of product change using integrated conductivity measurement
